Inglorious Basterds

Ok, this films is a piece of crap. Sorry. Had to get that out of my system.

Tarantino is a great filmmaker. Great technique, boldness, audacity, everything’s there. Really, there is. The great takes, the suspense… the boldness of taking a subject that is usually considered “sacred” and doing something with it…. modifing history in such an exagerated and absurd way…

All those are good things.

Then, why, just why must the film be perfectly, totally, completely and absolutely devoid of any meaning?*

This film is cotton-candy. Blood flavoured cotton candy, but no less empty for that.

*Save the first part, that very pointed and something that has to be discussed, since it’s a universal subject.

The Light Cavalry Aperture to lighten our moods after the dissapointment.

  1. I really saw it more as a revenge fantasy. An orgy of blood, if you will. I thought it might be cathartic to some people. Particularly for jewish viewers and US army vets. I also thought that the actor playing the SS officer was excellent.

In the context of Tarantino’s work, I think it fits pretty well. He does rather specializes in revenge flicks after all. And meaning? When, oh when have you ever found deep meaning in his work? Cause if you have, you can apply the same logic here.

  2. Tarantino’s not my cup of tea…
